Today I was reminded of something very important. Yoga is for everyone. Not every style is for everyone. Not every teacher is for everyone. Yoga, however, is for everyone. While in class today I noticed a man who looked like he was emphatically talking to himself. At first I thought he was just giving himself a pep talk, but then I realized he was not fully in control of his head ticks and facial movements. My mind raced through a list of educated guesses as to what condition he might have. Then I realized it didn’t matter what his story was. What mattered was that he was fully engaging in his yoga practice. I also noticed a woman who looked to be in her mid-60’s sandwiched between scantily clad 20-somethings. She too was fully engaging in her yoga practice despite an aging body. So if you, or someone you know is about to try yoga for the first time or after a long break, remember, yoga is for everyone. If the class you take does not feel right for you try another style or another teacher. Be brave enough to keep trying new things until you find what works for you.
