February

It’s February! January whizzed by without my even having time to take notice. I wasn’t ready for a new year to begin last month, but, time stops for no woman (or man). January soldiered on while I tended to my health, got overwhelmed by a schedule that was new, exciting, overly full, and slowly gained clarity as to what I wanted to fill my time doing. News of pregnancies, deaths, divorces, and the mundane ups and downs of life peppered my interactions with friends. A “blizzard” that shut down the city for a wee bit gave me time and space to reconnect with myself and some very important people in my life. I have been feeling a strong urge to hibernate this winter. This month will be filled with figuring out how to balance turning inward with staying connected to those I love. I am committed to writing more (both for this blog and for other ventures), spending more time in the kitchen cooking and baking, staying deeply connected to my yoga practice and my body through movement and meditation, and doing some serious soul searching so I can grow personally and figure out how I want to grow professionally. I like how neat and clean the month of February is this year – exactly four weeks, beginning on Sunday and ending on Saturday. There is exactly one full moon (tomorrow) and one new moon (on the 18th). There is also one full week of winter break for the public schools in NYC, which means a very light teaching schedule for me…extra time to write, play in the kitchen, catch up with friends who teach, and just plain relax (I got a new pair of sweatpants especially for this occasion).

About djunapassman

I teach yoga, write, and edit. I live in a Brooklyn neighborhood that is changing faster than I can, or care to, keep up with. It's basically gentrification at its finest. Manhattan still beckons me to her island a few subways stops away, reminding me of when I lived amongst her daily hustle and bustle.
